Simple Experiences: Max’s Restaurant

Chicken is served in many restaurants and even a specialty in a number of them from foreign ones to local dine-ins.. 100414max_Edited

But how about Max’s Restaurant? How would you rate ’em?

Well, been to Max just recently and had some Sisig (a Bicolano specialty), Tofu, and the pride of Max’s – its fried chicken.

The verdict? At least for the food..

Personally, the sisig was okay, it’s worth the order, although I would have wanted it a bit more spicy. And the tofu was just right, not overcooked and not kinda raw. On the other hand, the fried chicken has quite evolved through the years..

What used to be pepperish and juicy has become sort of like it’s rival (in terms of chicken not restaurant) in Chooks-to-Go, the surging chicken stand. Soft and saucy.

Max's fried chicken..
Max’s fried chicken..

Now, mind you, saucy and juicy are different. Saucy is a bit sticky with sauce while juicy is like the meat is not well-done. Depending on your preference, you’d naturally go for what your taste buds crave for, and..

It’s juicy for me.

Simple Experiences: Starbucks

Most people do like coffee, for one, notice how many coffee
shops are in your town? And even coffee vending machines are sprouting just like mushrooms in your neighborhood.

Yet when it comes to coffee shops, can you think of any coffee shop that comes close to Starbucks?

Well, this is why people just flocks the resto even at a price.

Then again, not all are the same in terms of this and that as they are franchises. And surprisingly, those in the provinces offers
better service than those in the city.

For instance, Starbucks at Glorietta 4 was just too slow in delivering its goods. And to think of it, t’was just a couple of simple sandwiches that we ordered.

The food we ordered...
The food we ordered…

More so, the crew was less courteous as compared to the
provincial branches. Could it be that they are just attending to many customers? Ah, if so then they got a
“waiting system problem” at that. Besides, there were only just 3 of us at that time.

Provincial franchises, on the other hand, are more attentive; perhaps because they feel they got a lot to prove. The staff are more careful as they understand the brand that they are carrying.

One time in a provincial branch...
One time in a provincial branch…

Of course, the food is just about the same, it’s standard. Quality and price-wise. Plus, all physical structures do comply to their norm.

At the bottom of that coffee cup, it all just boils down to that customer experience. One more cup.. or never again. Hmm… how was your coffee?

Simple Experiences: Listerine Mouthwash

Who needs a mouthwash?

Well, we all do unless you’re antisocial and more so, if you do not value your teeth. Don’t you?

Think about it. Isn’t prevention better than cure? So instead of spending thousands on your dentist, why not use even a fraction of it on flosses and mouthwashes?

Yes, there had been a previous controversy on Listerine being an alcohol-containing mouthwash. And? That such was said to contribute to oral cancer..

..which was then rightfully refuted.

Personally, what I do feel after using the mouthwash is that it makes your mouth dry. Like there’s really no saliva that wets it. I don’t think that’s a good feeling. Feels thirsty and sticky.

And because of that dryness, even with the slogan “Kills germs that cause bad breath” – one would even think the protection it provides is only good for a couple of hours.

Product Review: Lenovo G480 laptop

After just 6 months of use, the Lenovo G480 already showed signs of age. Yes, just 6 months since it was purchased.

What happened?

Well, the screen just doesn’t light up or display anything. Can’t be because of the OS, as it’s good after fixing it ourselves. Nor because of any preexisting factory defect, as it was tested beforehand besides it’s only after 6 months that a malfunction has occurred..

..so, it must be G480’s ventilation system rather than the whole motherboard itself – as you could already feel the heat when you stick your palm near the keyboard.

Perhaps Lenovo should try to improve the unit’s battery life as an empty batt could be a contributor to its weak ventilation. Still, the more telling inconvenience is the fact that warranty repairs could take 3 weeks since the place where it was bought has no service center.

Hmm… this is one thing manufacturers need to address as well. They shouldn’t just get sales partners, instead, they should have technical agreements with these distributors so they are able to fix the laptops themselves.

The key here is not only to make sure of their training but to provide them with enough spare parts in case of replacements. A good monitoring system would help Lenovo.

As for the other tangibles, well, while the laptop is affordable at less than $500 a unit, it’s a bit thick and quite heavy..

Do we still need a new model to address these concerns?

Product Review: Tattoo Pocket WiFi

Most everyone needs to get online today.. Whether for career, business, or social purposes. Unfortunately, not many has good access to the internet..

..it could be because of the area they are in, or simply because one travels a lot.

Though more industrialized countries does not really have such a problem, developing nations still do.

But thanks to a continued advancement in technology, getting online has now become much easier – for one, there’s now a pocket WiFi.

More than just going through specs, how about user experience on this one? Hmm…

Tattoo is a Globe-branded device to access the internet which could be a stick, or a pocket WiFi. The stick seems to be on the phase out, so we replace ’em with the much improved pocket WiFi from Huawei.

Tattoo Pocket WiFi

Size is okay with just a little under 4×3 inches in measurement, so it’s handy. Accessibility or signal? Fluctuates in some areas but generally stable. As far as speed is concerned, it goes as the signal goes. If the signal is good then you got a speed of about 7mbps, otherwise, it fluctuates a bit more.

Battery is a concern though as the device seems to get quite hot after an hour and a half of use.. So, you got to stop a while to cool it down as a precaution.

Durability? We still have to see..

Lastly, though Huawei E5330Bs-2 also has the ability to connect up to 10 devices, it’s still pretty expensive at P1,995. After all, these kinds of gadgets are already all over the planet.

Looking forward to more improvements.

VIDEO: Clash of Clans

Today’s feature, Clash of Clans is actually an online game but aside from its cute warriors and great graphics, there’s something else worth mentioning about this game…

…its video for its TV commercial, “Clash of Clans: You and This Army.”

Not bad. With its rich graphics, viewers would definitely be curious about the game. Hey, on YouTube alone, it has captured almost 17M views – that’s a feat, a sign that the game and sponsors would really do well.

Now okay, it’s a nice game but how many have already developed such? Building villages, fortresses or bases? About wars, strategies, defending and all? Everything is just about the same, right? Just different names and graphics, and in some instances, features.

Yea, the game’s real excitement would be on its levels, on “what’s next?” … and that is where the battle for “gamers” or users is. In the end, all about “battling boredom.”

How about having an offline Clash of Clans option as well? With this, one does not have to look for wifi connections just to play the game. Obviously, when news spreads, it would be quite an experience for the user and a good promotion for the developer…

…regardless of having a TV commercial.

Footwear Review: Chuck Taylor

Chuck Taylor. This is a “classic” if there’s such a term for footwear, particularly for sports or casual shoes. Time passes, styles change, brands come and go.. but Chuck Taylor? It has weathered all revolutions in fashion.

Chucks Low
Chucks Low

Yes, we used to see these shoes on basketball players. Well, actually, until now there are those who still wears it when playing. And why not? It’s light when you run and sticky when you apply the brakes. Yeah, you don’t easily slip with it.. although your ankles need some “wrapping” to prevent injuries (high or low cut) since what covers your foot is basically cloth-like.

True, competition has somewhat phased it out of the basketball court but still, what makes it really cool is its “flexibility.”

From the court, it is now used more for strolling or going to school, and even in beaches – wherever, unless it’s a formal outing. And sure, it comes in different colors… and designs, of course, built on the same “shoe frame.”

Chuck Taylor was introduced in 1917, and back then it was still known as the “All Star”; and it was not until 1923 when Converse incorporated Chuck Taylor (a basketball player, also a salesman) on to its patch.

Ah, it’s been a while… but instead of fading away, it’s even been emulated. Wow!
