Gadget Review: Flir One Thermal Imaging Case

Our featured gadget for today has more or less addressed one of our concerns so to say, and that is about night vision.

Well, why is this “night vision” a necessity?

Oh, outdoor activities, and to some extent – stalkers or intruders. Or missing children, and even pets? Okay, we got CCTV. But hey, that’s basically for daytime surveillance. And although it could also do its nighttime job, it needs the aid of light to somehow succeed..

..but, with this gadget, all you need is a smartphone.. And wala! You could already “see in the dark.”

The Flir One Thermal Imaging Case could visualize from 0 to 100 degrees Celsius with a resolution that’s actually far better than its stated 80×60 pixels..

The downside though could be its price – $349. Uhmm… Is such a price worth it as an accessory that’s applicable to only one brand in iPhone 5 and 5S? Not to mention the obvious, it’s mainly just for personal use.

Goji Smart Lock on Innovation Watch

By the name itself, Goji Smart Lock sounds interesting – after all, it’s basically keyless. Yea, a door lock designed not only to make sure you locked your door but to notify you of people who went to your house, or those trying to forcibly enter it.. and that is by sending you a text message and a picture of the visitor.

Hmm… this seems just like a CCTV only in a different name and package, huh? Of course, the CCTV is basically to monitor people while Goji is for added protection to your house’s door lock.

Well, it is said that Goji is anĀ  “electronic” system with a built-in WiFi and works specifically with smartphones – iPhone 4S and higher, and Samsung Galaxy S3 and up with a 24/7 customer service assistance to help you lock or unlock your door – yes, from anywhere in the world.

And that’s just the beginning of the story..

Once the easy-to-install locking system is fastened, Goji could monitor your door up to 6 feet out. So if it’s you or anyone you give access to approaches, the door automatically opens even greeting you by your name; this is especially useful for those who do you professional services when you’re not around like housecleaning.

And in case you are to authorize an elderly or a child who doesn’t really carry smartphones, access could also be gained through an electronic Bluetooth fob which you could get from Goji. Otherwise, one could also open the door in a more traditional manner by using its key (which mainly exists for back up purposes).

Nevertheless, amazing as this $278 locking system sounds, people who are really concerned with security would ask this..

Isn’t there any chemical (or anything that could deactivate the system) that an intruder could shoot from more than 6 feet away be used? This means accessing undetected. After all, Goji is still a machine.. and when there’s a will, there’s a way. Got the point?

App Review: Tinder dating site

With over 5 million downloads at Google Play, Tinder is among the hottest applications being downloaded today.

Tinder is actually a matchmaker of an application. And just like other dating sites, it mainly bases its search according to gender, age and location among others.

However, unlike other apps, Tinder is a bit more appealing with all those swiping as even athletes from the ongoing Sochi Winter Olympics uses the site to find dates, and especially last Valentines day.

Still, it was not all a “bed of roses” for its users as a flaw was recently discovered from the dating app. And what was it?

A user’s actual location could actually be pinpointed (by just using some high school math) when as we believe should be anonymous, right?

For one, this could be dangerous especially if one unknowingly encounters a “scheming” individual. The consequences.. oh, you could just imagine.

Sure, Tinder has promptly acted on it, but they better make sure that it’s really fixed and no other hacking would happen.
